I would love to reduce the amount of plastic I use, especially for lunch boxes. I’ve tried several alternatives, but none of them worked well for us.
My biggest concern is the extra weight. Kids already carry heavy backpacks filled with notebooks, folders, tablets or books, water bottles, and their lunch. Adding a heavy lunch container only makes it worse.
That’s why I still use a lightweight plastic bento box. It’s light enough not to add much weight, yet large enough to pack a filling lunch. I just make sure never to put hot or warm food in it—I let the food cool first before packing.
